10 Christmas Cookies to Bake

Does anyone else love to bake more than ever during the holiday season? The limit does not exist to what type of cookies qualify as holiday cookies and it’s the perfect excuse to use cute cookie cutters. Fun fact: you can freeze cookie dough and save it for awhile, so these can be on repeat all winter long. My favorite thing is getting to bake in the kitchen with my kids. We have made some of the very best memories with cookie dough on our hands and flour everywhere.

I have found what I think are the very best Christmas cookies on the internet, so be prepared to be baking up a storm this season!

These are the classic Christmas cookie that comes to mind when I think of the holidays. You can’t beat a great sugar cookie and getting to decorate them any way you’d like for the season is even better! Paint them red and green, make a candy cane or shape a dreidel and star out of them for Hannukah! This recipe makes for the perfect holiday cookie. And even better, it comes with a recipe for royal icing. Add food coloring to get into the holiday spirit!

If you’ve never had Italian Christmas cookies, let me just tell you, they melt in your mouth! These are always at the holiday parties this time of year and are some of the very best holiday cookies around. Their texture is like cake and the icing and sprinkles on top are the best part! You can even stick to just red and green sprinkles to make them as festive cookies. You can put them in a cookie tin and give them as a gift to neighbors and teachers, too!

Another one of the easy Christmas cookie recipes are gingerbread cookies! They’re a classic holiday cookie and you can make any cookie cutter shape you’d like out of them. Candy canes, gingerbread men, snowflakes, really whatever your heart desires. Feel free to ice them how you’d like or add powdered sugar for a snow-like look!

Spread some holiday cheer with simple ingredients. These are vegan, so they are perfect for anyone who doesn’t consume animal products. They’re a buttery shortbread base with jam on top. Choose any jam and shape you’d like, although these are pretty cute for Valentine’s Day! Cut a triangle or circle as an easy way to shape the dough.

When I think of the holidays, I think of peppermint. It feels very wintry and mixed with a brownie cookie make for some of my family’s favorite Christmas cookies! This is one of those easy recipes to follow that you can keep in your back pocket and be able to whip it up whenever you’d like.

Brown Sugar Cinnamon cookies are such a warm cookie option. The spices just scream holiday season! Crisp edges meet festive flavor and the whole batch is gone in no time!

Half Baked Harvest has some of my all-time favorite recipes! Seriously, I trust everything she makes to be phenomenal. These sound heavenly! I’ve never tried an eggnog cookie and I think the chai snickerdoodle flavors will balance it out nicely.

I think these are a perfect snow day cookie! And even better, they are one of the best easy cookie recipes I’ve found! Hot chocolate is such a winter treat, I would’ve never thought to make a treat out of it. Make sure to frost them to make them even creamier!

I’ve never thought to make Christmas trees out of the cookies themselves, rather than ice them or shape them with a cookie cutter. This is such a clever idea! And also a really great kitchen craft for kids over winter break! Not only do they taste amazing, but they make for a fantastic table centerpiece!

Finally, we have some chewy molasses cookies! These are a classic cookie that may not necessarily be meant for Christmas season, but they make for a fantastic bite! I love making these when I want a chewy, soft cookie with nothing to bit into, aka nuts or chocolate.

Happy holiday baking!
