The focus is mainly on France & Italy for this one. For every budget. For May half-term and the summer family holidays. As recommended by you…
I asked a question over on Instagram stories a couple of weeks again, for recommendations on lovely summer holidays with kids. Specifically in Italy, South of France, Sardinia, Sicily… and was sent some beautiful hotel and location suggestions. Thank you! I’ve had lots of requests to share but there were too many for an Instagram post so thought I’d list some of my favourites here in note form.
I will say that many are already fully booked (for the times we were looking – we’re restricted to school holidays and are a family of five which in itself rules out a good few) but if you have less children or freedom of dates there are still some absolute gems available. And I now also have a shortlist to reserve for next year!
There’s a bit of a mixture – of destination and accommodation. Some hotels, some Airbnb’s. Budget to luxury. A few notes. I found it SO helpful anyway. Info for each is under the destination heading. Hope you find it helpful. I feel like I need to do one of these for UK breaks too!? And for other summer holiday destinations.
Île de Ré
So many recommendations to visit this pretty, chic island off the West Coast of France.
Check out @littlenorfolkcottage‘s brilliant highlight on Île de Ré.
For glamping – hire bikes with kid’s carts and travel around the island – Flower Campings Tamarins Plage
Le Phare, a 4-star open-air hotel is on my list for next summer. It looks just beautiful, beach-side, a good base to explore the island and a reasonable price.
Also, lots of great Airbnb’s.
South of France
A few places to stay…
This place looks so sweet and relaxed – Hameau de Montengrand
VERY highly recommended, stunningly beautiful and family friendly with kids’ activities – Château Les Carrasses
A magical place to stay with little ones – Chateasu Saint Victor La Coste
Holiday apartments in a fairytale castle – Chateau Villarlong
How I always imagine a holiday in Provence, charmingly beautiful – Capelongue
Corsica
I think I need to go to Corsica – so many people saying how child-friendly it is! Mostly recommending Airbnb’s as the way to go. But there are some super luxurious hotels too. Just adding it here as a reminder to myself to go as it’s a destination I hadn’t considered.
Sardinia
I’m desperate to visit! And have actually booked a hotel for May half-term. But tempted to book an Airbnb for summer 2026 on another part of the island so we can fully explore. There are some beautiful ones…
So, a few hotels… varying in location, style and price. All highly recommended.
Luxury all-inclusive – Forte Village Resort
And this one – Falkensteiner
And another – Conrad Chia Laguna
I read mixed reviews on this one but it looks stunning and I loved @little.staycations beautiful reels and on Arbatax Park Resort
I love the look of this one for families – Cala di Lepre – to then explore the Maddalena islands too.
This one also looks great – Hotel Cormoran
Lots of opinions on where to stay – many saying if self-catering around Olbia for phenomenal beaches.
Sicily
I had a few messages suggesting Northern Sicily, the Cefalu area. To stay in the old town. Which looks just lovely – beautiful, coastal, full of history. And to get an Airbnb in Palermo… especially in May/June half-term.
Amazing family friendly hotel near Siracusa – Hotel Borgo Pantano
Italy
I’ve already emailed this hotel to enquire for next year (it was booked up for the room size we’d need for this year). It’s 6km from the town of Ostuni in Puglia. white-washed, historic charm, beautiful countryside – Masseria Cervarolo
