Yeehaw, The Wiggles are ready to rock again! Following the announcement of next summer’s tour, the band with 100 albums has released a rock-country stand-alone single. “Big Ret Ute” celebrates life on the open road and is an ode to the group’s beloved song “Big Red Car.”
Pronounced “yute,” the song encourages safe passenger behavior, like wearing a seat belt, appreciating the rumble of an engine, and taking advantage of power windows. The single combines an upbeat melody and playful lyrics with pop, rock, and country music elements.
This is the first time in the band’s 30-year history that they’ve ditched their big red car for a shiny new sport utility vehicle. And no member is falling asleep in the backseat this time: “‘Big Red Ute’ is a playful nod to our original ‘Big Red Car’,” says Anthony Field, the group’s original Blue Wiggle. “Young minds have a beautiful way of being fascinated by the simplest things. A child might hear the ‘vroom’ of an engine or see a window rolling up, and suddenly, it’s magic. ‘Big Red Ute’ is all about celebrating those little wonders that kids notice – things we adults sometimes take for granted. And the best part? It’s a song families can sing and dance to together.”
In the group’s new music video, members take turns behind the wheel, with breaks for line dancing, hat-tipping, and hand clapping. The group daringly drives its beloved red pick-up truck — which appears to be a 2023 Toyota HiLux Rogue — off-road! “Big Red Ute” is now available on streaming platforms and is available for download.
